πΌ: [[π‘ Developmental Container]]
##### Daily Review Backwards
>"Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced. Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.β
>β SΓΈren Kierkegaard
The daily review is done at the end of the day in consideration of the [[π‘ Daily Practice and Intention|Intention]] set at the beginning. It helps us...
- ...recognize our accomplishments, however big or small
- ...be [[π―οΈ Mindfulness|mindful]] of what genuine [[π―οΈ Gratitude]] that we can savor, when we may otherwise have missed it
- ...notice and name any impediments (internal or external) that got in the way of our [[π‘ Daily Practice and Intention|Daily Intention]] or longer-term [[π‘ Developmental Goal]].
###### The Practice
This does *not* need to take a long time or even to be written down. We take a few minutes to reflect on our day, backwards, starting with the present moment and going back to the first thing we did in the morning. Going backwards helps us view our day more objectively and notice [[π‘ Parts|Parts]] that came up. It frees us from storytelling so we can better see what really happened.
We might use the following questions to focus the review:
- How did the day go? Was I able to fulfill my [[π‘ Daily Practice and Intention|Intention]]?
- What did I accomplish today?
- What/who am I grateful for today?
- What impediments (internal or external) did I encounter? What action will I take to address them?
> [!tip] Tips
> - We donβt have to be thorough or meticulous. Choose the events that feel most significant. Start small by choosing only two or three events such as evening, afternoon, and morning. As we get the hang of it, we can include more events.
> - It's less about remembering everything than it is understanding how we got to where we are at the end of the day.
> - We can practice [[βοΈ Compassion]] as we do this. If [[π‘ Parts|Parts]] get triggered while we do this, we can note those and even practice getting to know them with [[π―οΈ Part-Tending]].
> - After practicing this for a while, and if it feels relevant, we can go back to yesterday, last week, last year, our childhood, and even our birth or earlier. Often what happened today was the playing out of long-standing [[πͺ¨ Personal Burdens]] or [[πͺ¨ Inherited Burdens]], and we can sometimes notice those by following a thread backwards.
> - We don't have to write our review, but **do** write down any important insights gained from doing it or [[π‘ Parts|Parts]] who got triggered during the day and during the Daily Review.
> [!NOTE] Note for Clients
> One of the best ways to get the most out of our conversations is to bring any unresolved impediments into our next session.
