🔼: [[⭐️ Emotions]] # Reverence[^1] Sometimes called adoration, worship, or veneration, it is a deeper form of [[💡 Admiration|admiration]] or respect and is often combined with a sense of meaningful [[☀️ Connection|connectedness]] with something greater than ourselves. This word can be complicated. Some of us were raised to be reverent by unjust people and grew into a life of social justice and activism, we might seek out irreverent stuff, laugh at it, and then feel bad. This word might remind us of [[💡 Religion]] or certain family dynamics or feeling pressured. We might have been expected to revere people who didn’t see us for who we are — they might not have had our best interests in mind or be protecting or abusing their power. When reverence is expected it can feel performative. It’s built into systems. **Anything that demands reverence and isn’t open to being challenged or questioned is problematic**. Reverence is a gift.
