# Stress
I define stress is any unpleasant thought, [[⭐️ Emotions|emotion]], or [[⭐️ Body#Somatic Sensations|somatic sensation]].
We feel stressed when we a demand as beyond our ability to cope. It often arises when we're working hard at something we don't care about. This includes elements of unpredictability, uncontrollability, and feeling overloaded. This is subjective. Something is stressful when a person experiences it as stressful.
Stress contributes to [[💡 Emotional Dysregulation|emotional dysregulation]] and makes us more reactive to [[💡 Trigger|triggers]]. The more stressed we are, further we're pulled out of our [[💡 Window of Tolerance|Window of Tolerance]] and (often) the more symptomatic we become.
