πΌ: [[π οΈ Goals and Intentions]]
###### Compensatory Goal
A goal set to compensate for past failure(s).
These are really two goals in one:
1. Achieve the thing.
2. Make up for past failure(s).
- [[π We have nothing to prove]]
These goals are born of [[βοΈ Emotions]] like [[π‘ Shame|shame]] and [[π‘ Resentment|resentment]] βΒ they're driven by [[π‘ Protector Parts|Protector Parts]] and our [[π Exiles have a Drive For Redemption|π Exiles' Drive for Redemption]]. They tend to be [[π‘οΈ Perfectionism|π‘οΈ perfectionistic]] and riddled with [[π‘ Black-and-White Thinking|All-or-Nothing Thinking]], which can set us up for failure and encourage us to quit when things get tough or donβt go our way.
> [!example]
> Someone tries their best but fails a class.
> They think, βNext time I have to get an A.β
> Progress looks like from F to D, C, B, and then A.
> Aim for a C or B.
