🔼: [[⭐️ Nutrition]] # Ultra-Processed Foods[^1] --- Ultra-processed foods are engineered with substances extracted from "real" food, like fats, starches, [[💡 Added Sugar]], and hydrogynated fats. They're typically injected with additives like artificial colors and flavors or stabilizers. Ultra-processed foods are typically the least nutritious, meaning they have the fewest amount of vital nutrients per calorie. Our bodies digest them quickly, which means we become hungry again sooner, and because they're engineered to be tasty they're very easy to overeat. This is not to say we have to be dogmatic about our diet and never eat donuts again, but it is best to limit them. ## Examples of Ultra-Processed Foods - Frozen meals - Soft drinks - Hot dogs - Cold cuts - Fast food - Packaged cookies, cakes, and salty snacks - Chef Boyardee Ravioli ## Related - [[⭐️ Nutrition]] - [[💡 Unprocessed or Minimally Processed Foods]] - [[💡 Processed Foods]] [^1]: https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/what-are-ultra-processed-foods-and-are-they-bad-for-our-health-2020010918605
