##### πŸ’¨ Nadi Shuddhi[^1] [[On Tools, Skills, and Practices...]] Type: [[πŸ•―οΈ Breathwork πŸ’¨]] Use: [[πŸ›  Self-Soothing]] Nadi - [[Sanskrit]]; a channel through which energy flows through your body. Shuddi - [[Sanskrit]]; cleansing. The nerves in our left nostril activate our [[πŸ’‘ Parasympathetic Nervous System]] or "Yin". The nerves in our right nostril activate our [[πŸ’‘ Sympathetic Nervous System]] or "Yang". Nadi Shuddhi or Alternate Nostril Breathing balances the two. If we're [[πŸ’‘ Anxiety|Anxious]], it's calming. If we're feeling [[πŸ’‘ Depression|Depressed]], it's energizing. It also provides enough attention to the mind to keep our mind from wandering too much. In this meditation we will block one nostril, breathe in through the other nostril, and then switch sides to breathe out. ###### The Practice: - [[πŸ•―οΈ Mudras βœ‹]]: Place your index and middle finger just above the middle of your eyebrows, so that your thumb is poised to block one nostril and your other two fingers are poised to block the other. - Block/press down on your right nostril with your thumb or index finger using your right hand and inhale through the left nostril - Block/press down on the left nostril with your ring and middle finger. Exhale through the right nostril, and then inhale through the right nostril. - Block the right nostril, exhale through the left. - That's one round. Complete 9 rounds, then gradually work up to 20 minutes. - After 2 weeks of 10-20 minutes per day, you can move on to [[πŸ’¨ Anuloma Viloma]]. [^1]: [[πŸ“– 🟠 Dr. K's Guide to Mental Health]]
