# Spaced Repetition
[[On Tools, Skills, and Practices...]]
Type: [[⭐️ Sleep]]
Use:
Don't let studying become mindless repetition. Give at least one day between sessions, allowing yourself to forget enough that [[🦮 How to Study|Retrieval Practice]] takes effort, but not so much that you have to return to [[🔑 Highlighting, rereading, and cramming are almost useless|reread material]]. Allowing yourself to forget some information between spaced study and retrieval practice gives time for [[💡 Recoding|Memory Consolidation]] and makes both [[⭐️ Learning]] and [[💡 Memory]] stronger while also making the learning pliable again, allowing for reconsolidation which updates your memories and connects it to more recent learning. It also saves us time.
[[🛠 Flashcards]] work well for this. While you take a break from some cards, you can work through others. Use Google Sheets to keep up with how often you review your material. Every subject gets a spreadsheet. A column is for the different topics covered in that subject. All other columns are for keeping up with the dates on which you reviewed those [[🛠 Flashcards]], color-coded to indicate how easy it was for you to recall the information.
Spaced Repetition has [[Diminishing Returns]], however.
