###### Combining Pendulation and Titration
Let’s say we want to be able to run for two hours without stopping. Most of us, if we were to try doing that right now, would end up getting hurt. But maybe we can run for seven minutes without stopping and then rest ([[🕯️ Pendulation]]). After doing this for some time, maybe a week or more, we’ll notice we can now run for twelve minutes without stopping. We incrementally expand our capacity by staying within our [[💡 Window of Tolerance|window of tolerance]] ([[🕯️ Titration]]) and with time we’ll find ourselves able to run for two hours.
Other examples:
- A small child running back to their grownup when something scary happens, then venturing out again.
- Closing your eyes during a scary movie, then opening them to face your fear
- Dipping your foot in cold water, taking it out, wading further in, and repeating
- Resting after exercise

We can even do this accidentally:
- Dissociating when we start to get overwhelmed
- Making a joke when a conversation gets too heavy
- Scrolling to escape boredom
We’re pendulating, not necessarily titrating.
